Millions of years ago, magma rising from deep within the planet pushed the island upwards, creating a unique geological landscape. Takasaki Beach, with its pristine white sands and mesmerizing cobalt-blue waters, is a testament to this dramatic history.
The beach is also a haven for marine life, attracting fishermen from across the island. Legend has it that the village of Takasaki was founded by fishermen who migrated from the eastern side of the island in search of abundant fishing grounds. Today, Takasaki Beach continues to enchant locals and visitors alike with its beauty and tranquility.

Takasaki Beach is just a 1-minute walk from Takasaki Stay. The nearby Takasaki Grassland offers panoramic views of the dramatic lava coastline, creating an atmosphere that will make you feel far removed from everyday life in Japan. For a relaxing experience, take in the energy of the island, sea, and earth by strolling along the Kyushu Nature Trail, which winds through the Miraku area.
If you have a car, a visit to the Osezaki Lighthouse (55 minutes away) is highly recommended. This lighthouse sits on a peninsula where 15-million-year-old geological layers of sand and mud are exposed. It’s also an ideal spot to watch the sun set over the East China Sea, from the location where it sets the latest on Kyushu’s mainland.
The Goto Islands have a rich history of Christianity as well. Consider a visit to Dozaki Cathedral (40 minutes away), where you can learn more about this unique heritage.
